Achievements

At a Highland and National level Youth Voice have been very successful in gaining recognition and ensuring that we are listened to. We have demonstrated that young people are willing and able to become involved in our communities and have a valuable contribution to make.
In addition to addressing drug and alcohol issues The Youth Voice have been directly involved in the following:
The HYV website won the Chairman's award in the HIghland Council Quality Awards September, 2002

We have planned and held 4 successful Youth Voice meetings: November 2000, June 2001, November 2001 and March 2002

We have produced 5 newsletters keeping all our members and supporters up to date with our activities

We contributed fully to the National Debate on Education. We gave presentations at the SSBA/HC conference, the ADES/COSLA conference and to the HC Education Culture and Sport Committee. July, 2002


The Highland Youth Voice website, has been selected "Website of the month" by UK Youth - the leading organisation for young people and youth workers using the Internet for learning. July, 2002

We made a video presentation to send to the National conference on Planning for Children's Services. May, 2002

We attended and participated in a meeting held in Inverness with Nicol Stephen to discuss the National Debate on Education. May, 2002

We met with the Deputy Jusitce Minister, Dr. Richard Simpson to discuss Drug Issues in Highland and the Know the Score campaign. April, 2002

2 of our members helped deliver the Invernesshighland2008 Capital of Culture bid to the Department of Culture Media and Sport in London. The members then went on to have tea with the Secretary of State for Scotland , Helen Liddell and took part in a press conference with Sir. Cameron Mackintosh and Highland MP's. April, 2002


Anna Bethune, YV member from Portree met with First Minister Jack McConnell in Skye for the Capital of Culture campaign. April, 2002

We held a question and answer session with Hon. Charles Kennedy MP at our meeting in March. March, 2002

2 of our members took part in the BBC Scotland's radio show 'Politics Tonight' along with Charles Kenndy March, 2002

We gave an update presentation to the Joint Committee meeting in March, 2002

First Contact: WHAM (waste minimisation project) become involved with Youth Voice through this website February, 2002


We attended the Princes Trust Youth Cafes in Action conference and facilitated a workshop on working with young people January, 2002

Filmed a series of Drugs adverts along with Drysdale Media November, 2001

Taken part in a workshop discussion on what the role of a Children's Rights Commissioner should be, and contributed fully to the debate in the Chamber of The Scottish Parliament. June, 2001

Were involved in a visit from Members and Officers of N.Ayrshire Council who wanted information on youth work development in Highland. June, 2001

Made a presentation on Youth Voice to the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. June, 2001


Drafted a confidentiality card which explains to young people what their rights are when accessing health services. June, 2001

Researched and produced Youth Voice drugs awareness leaflet - Imagine this, which was launched at the meeting in June, 2001

Taken part in the making of a film 'Youth Central' which was a consultation on why we should have a Children's Rights Commissioner May, 2001

Taken part in discussions on Radio Scotland's Lesley Riddoch Show. The topics discussed were Active Citizenship and lowering the voting age to 16. April, 2001

Approved a design for our logo. April, 2001


Co- facilitated a workshop at the National conference on active citizenship, helping others to learn from our experience April, 2001

Taken part in a national conference on active citizenship, presenting our experiences to a large and wide audience from this country and abroad April, 2001

Taken part in a training event organised to encourage women to become involved in public life March, 2001

Met with the former First Minister Henry McLeish December, 2000

Current Projects

Attending meetings of The Joint Committee of Children and Young People.


Contributing to meetings concerning The European Capital of Culture bid.

Presentations to various Wellbeing Alliance meetings at all levels.

Influencing the spend of the Health boards 'Walk the Talk' monies.

We drafted an Alcohol Awareness leaflet at our last meeting in March.

We continue to give presentations to various Wellbeing Alliance meetings at all levels


School Surgeries have been run in a few of our schools and feedback has been collated to take forward at our Executive meetings.
